This week I have been working on writing an article about the National Standards in Music Education. This is a key stone for the future of music education in public schools. Principals use these music standards to critique and write evaulations. These national standards show parents, teachers, and administrators how much learning can take place in a music classroom and what exactly we are teaching. Especially in the times we are in when music programs are always facing budget cuts, the "national" part of the standards puts arts education into perspective and supports the music programs. Ultimately, it validates music as a core subject in school - not just an extra activity.
