Mindblindness in Music?

I just stumbled across a fascinating article in the New York Times and wanted to share it here:


Let me first point out that this article is not music-related. The author does, however, make some provoking points--particularly about gender ratios in the field of philosophy--that suggest interesting parallels with the world of classical music. (As I read, I also noted that, while music professes to be a tool of communication, many composers adopt the "I don't expect you to understand!" attitude discussed in this article. Very interesting.)
